Re: Don't just make a video. Tell a story.Big ideas... sometimes have to change ;-))
I mentioned before I'll be doing a video of our son's wedding. The start of the story of course, was organizing it. I'd made some folders, one for baby pictures, toddlers, school, etc. No problem with pictures of my son - I've got them all. His fiancée is a different story, there are very few pictures and those that exist are of poor quality: They had a house fire when she was 16. So, I've changed the story: I'm using the pictures I can. Between the pictures and the video of the trip to and wedding in Jamaica, I am now having each of the siblings on both sides say their congrats, maybe 8-10 seconds each (there are 7 if I can get all of them to cooperate). And while I am doing all this, I'm learning to turn the pages of a photoalbum with completely different dimension from the one in the tutorial ;-)) But so far, I've been able to keep a story going! Re: Don't just make a video. Tell a story.Esther, I think Steve's original analysis is just spot on. I refer to this thread all the time.... and for me telling the story continues to be the most difficult aspect of creating. I have the story in my head but getting it out and on to media is always elusive for me.

Re: Don't just make a video. Tell a story.Yes, this is a worthy read many times over. In my early editing days, which wasn't that long ago, I would get home from a family event and realize that I didn't have an opening or ending clip or both. Some of my projects would have an abrupt end.

Re: Don't just make a video. Tell a story.A lot of my video is created putting together videos from old photos and footage (so there wasn't a story in mind when I was originally shooting). But the point is the same .. until you have a story that ties it altogether, that great footage is only interesting. Ever since Steve first posted this, it's helped me find the starting point to make everything work together .. and more interesting for someone else to watch.

Re: Don't just make a video. Tell a story.A good path, I keep it in my memory.
I strongly suggest that everyone tells a story in photography portfolios as well, as recommended by an Italian photographer. After reading this topic I thought about transposing my favorite ghost-story
