Hi Sara, Sounds like you will have the best of both worlds with Elements & Pro CS3! There are more and more forum members who are using the Pro software, good luck with your editing! Lee

There are a couple of features in Elements that don't exist in the Pro version, I miss them too much to switch for long.

What features are you missing so much, Chuck! Do them in After Effects! What version of After effects are you using? Lee

I have After Effects 7 and 8 (CS3). The latest is definitely the greatest. The Puppet Tool and the BrainStorm features are amazing I miss two things from Elements when I use Premiere Pro. 1. Right click on a clip and select FADE/In - Out Audio - Video 2. On the Elements timeline if I select a clip and press Ctrl + Z I will just split the selected clip, not true in Pro sorry to say. Oh, one other thing, you can't import a DVD with Pro either.

Hi Chuck,
I use After Effects 7 Pro! Yeah, I agree in that it has some great features.
Concerning Elements and Pro! Well, I would gladly stay with Pro and have a stable piece of software! Elements 4 just can't be trusted and even though there are some great workarounds here in the forum, it just isn't worth the chance and heartache!
Cheers, Lee

I do 1 project in Pro for every 3 I do in Elements 3. I am doing tutorials with Premiere Elements 4 but not any real work

Let me put my 2 shiny bits of copper in, now that the thread is well along...
PCs and Macs are both capable platforms, The only real differences anymore are the price gap ($2x more for Mac) and the ease of DIY upgrades (again, advantage PC). Not to dog the Mac, it's a great computer, but not for the price.
A lot of pros use Final Cut (a throwback to the days when Macs were by far the best platform for video editing), but CS3 is every bit its equal. Each NLE has its own advantages, but I'd say neither one is better than the other, and $600 for Production Studio is too good of a deal to pass up. Excellent buy, Sara.
I still use Elements 3 for 98% of my editing; in fact I just completed 3 TV commercials with it. If I need to do more advanced color correcting, titling, or effects, I bring the edited video into CS3 for the finishing touches. And Encore is a dream for DVD authoring and menu creation.
To ease the learning curve with your new CS3 programs, Sara, I'd highly recommend the tutorials at lynda.com. There are several free ones you can try before signing up for a membership.

Well, I stand corrected. I just did a little side-by-side at Dell and Apple... The MacPro workstation is price-comparable with the Dell T7400. There is still a difference with laptops, though. A MacBook Pro with similar specs to my Dell m6300 costs $700 more... The prices on Macs must have come down recently; last time I did comparisons (July '07) Macs were about 2x more with the same specs as PCs...

Thanks for that lynda.com website. I will be checking that out. I don't have my new toy up and running yet, but soon I will have it all loaded than them I'm sure I will have lots more questions. Has anyone seen this deal from Microsoft? http://www.theultimatesteal.com/home.aspThe download for all of these programs is $60 and the DVDs mailed to you are $70. You have to be enrolled in a college course to be considered a student. I just happed to be taking a course to update my credentials. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this and if its too good to be true. Good timing for me for this offer.
