buttons suddenly do not work

buttons suddenly do not workThis is strange. PRE 9 had been working fine. Now, when I launch the program and the New Project window comes up asking me to type in a name, indicate where it is being saved to and to change whatever settings I must, I cannot do any of these. I cannot type in a name and clicking on the buttons does nothing.
I tried a workaround but it did not work. I opened a project that I had created a few months ago and tried to modify that. The window that indicated that I had to change settings because of the new video clip came up. When I tried to click the button to agree to the setting change, it did not work. Has anyone seen this before? Thank you very much. Alan Silberlight
Re: buttons suddenly do not workHow much free, clean, freshly defragmented space is on your C drive?
Have you tried launching the program while holding down the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys on the left side of your keyboard? HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: buttons suddenly do not workThank you for responding so quickly. There is 19.2 gb of space remaining. I tried control+alt+shift but had no success. I'm sure I do need to do a disk defrag; I'll do one now and then report back.
Thanks again. Alan Silberlight
Re: buttons suddenly do not workI did the defrag but with no success--when I hover the cursor over the buttons, the color shade changes as if everything is active but nothing happens when I click on the button...very strange..thank you again..do you think an unstall and re-install would help?
Alan
Re: buttons suddenly do not workIt could be that your system is starting to choke on its lack of free space. It sometimes happens to me when I get below 20 gigs free. (It would be more pronounced if you were also editing on your C drive rather than a second drive.)
Clear another 5-10 gigs of space and maybe run a Deep Care tune-up with a program like Advanced System Care Free (http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html) to clear out the dust bunnies and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, reinstalling could just leave more tmp files on your drive, which might only make things worse. HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: buttons suddenly do not workI cleared more space so I now have 59.6 GB free; I also ran Advanced System Care Free. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem. I'm assuming that I'll have to do an uninstall and reinstall. I can't think of anything else; this is perplexing.
Thank you again.
Re: buttons suddenly do not workThat's a new one Alan, would love to know if a re-install fixes the problem.
Can't imagine what might cause that to happen. 1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.
2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
Re: buttons suddenly do not workI tried a re-install twice, the 2nd time with deleting my preferences--nothing has worked. This program worked a month ago, the last time I used it. There must be some sort of conflict.
Thank you again.
Re: buttons suddenly do not workAre you running a Windows machine? I think it's time to restore the system back to a restore point date that you know everything was working correctly.

Re: buttons suddenly do not workI would like to revisit this problem, two years later. Nothing has helped. However, by creating a new user account and installing the program I did get it to work. It uninstalled and then reinstalled. When I attempted to run the program with the regular user account it did not work. Same problem. By the way, around the same time the following was installed:
AMD Catalyst Install Manager Cyberlink PowerDVD 12 Microsoft Visual C ++ 2008 Redistributable Microsoft Visual C ++ 2005 Redistributable Any ideas? Thank you.
Re: buttons suddenly do not workHello Alan. Can you post a few more details about your system, please? CPU; RAM; operating system; number of HDDs and free space. Thanks.

Re: buttons suddenly do not workHello John,
Thank you very much. Here is the information. By the way, I tried to install the trial version of PE 12. Apparently it downloaded fine but it kept saying "extracting." When I clicked on the setup.exe file in the PE 12 folder, it said that it would not work on a 64 bit system. However, we know that PE should work on a 64 bit system. So..after a while I gave up trying to install the trial of the current version. Re: buttons suddenly do not workDid you extract the downloaded file by right-clicking on it and selecting the Extract option first -- or did you just try to launch the installation by browsing into the Zip file?

Re: buttons suddenly do not workThere was no zip file; the downloaded created a folder with various files. Thank you.
Re: buttons suddenly do not workI'm not sure what's going on. You might want to try downloading it again. Version 12 should definitely load right onto your system.
