16x versus 4x blank dvd media???I bought a batch of Sony dvd+R media yesterday at Staples. The packaging looked exactly the same as the previous batch I had used successfully the past year. But than I noticed the old batch was rated at 4x writing speed, the new batch is 16x. I checked my dvd burner on my computer and it says the writing speed is 8x max. I am confused now....

Re: 16x versus 4x blank dvd media???You should be able to use them, they will not be burned any faster than your DVD burner can which is 8x.
The rating of 16x on the discs is just the maximum possible burn speed, you can always burn slower that the rated speed. There shouldn't be any problems or issues but just to be safe; burn one of the discs and test it on your DVD player. If you have any problems at all return the whole lot to the store and get something else. 1. Re: 16x versus 4x blank dvd media???Thank you for your reply, Chuck. It says something on the dvd wrapper on the out side of the box to check your dvd burner for compatibility with the media if you don't want to damage it. So that got me thinking, usually I just would try it out and see what happens. Maybe I miss understood that warning, I would think that it just burns at the lower speed.
