Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10I received a message that Windows will no longer be issuing updates on Windows 7 Pro as of mid January 2020 (forgot exact date). If I have to upgrade I will buy Windows 10 Pro. What problems should I expect with my editing programs? I have PS CS5, PrPro CS6, AE CS6. I really wanted to avoid going the Adobe subscription plan for newer versions. I am more into photography and wouldn't mind having Lightroom and PS, but still edit some video. Thanks

Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10They aren't supported on Windows 10 and likely will not work if they install.
Even if you can get them to work, your video card may not may not have a Windows 10 driver that will allow the use of CUDA. What are the specs of your computer? You may want to consider keeping the Windows 7 computer (and not using it online if you have a security concern) when support ceases for Windows 7 and get a new computer for your online stuff or the CC Photography Plan.
Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10That's weird. I have SC6 and windows 10 and everything works great. There is a YouTube video to list your graphics card so you get CUDA to work.

Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10I'm using Windows 10 Pro with Premiere Pro CS6 and After Effects CS6. No problems at all. While I did subscribe to the CC Photography Plan to get the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom, I still have PS CS5 and CS6 installed and they both work. I used PS CS6 a couple of days ago.
I did an upgrade in place from Windows 7 Pro back when Windows 10 was a free upgrade. So, I've been using it a while. I'm on the current release. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

+1. I saw the post by Chris B that mentioned that the upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro (64 bit in my case) was still available so, making sure that I had a backup of my existing Win 7 system disc, I ran the upgrade and had no problems. You might want to try the process that Chris B identifed as a fresh Win 10 install will involve re-installation of all other software. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16546&p=134238&hilit=windows+10#p134238 As an aside, I wasn't very happy being "forced" to move to Win 10 but I have found that once I removed all the touch screen stuff, tiles and the like, it looks just like Win 7. Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10There seems to be a lot of talk of programs that don't work on later versions of Windows but it hasn't been the case in my experience. Yes - anything that's 16 bit based wont work on a 64bit version of Windows - but that has been the case since at least Vista. For some older programs the installer software was 16 bit even though the program was 32bit causing installation issues. I think in most cases they programs haven't been tested so companies just don't know and if there is a problem - you are on your own.
Personally I'm still using Photoshop/Premerie Elements 8 (from 2009) and - excluding the Quicktime stuff which Apple have dropped support for - they just work. Ditto Vegas 12 (2012). I had a quick hunt around for the oldest piece of software I could identify and found HDVSplit is from 2006 and still works just fine. Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10I suspect the caveat might (emphasis on MIGHT) be that if you do need to do a fresh install of Windows 10 rather than an in place upgrade, then re-install your software, some of the authentication servers for older software may no longer be available.

Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10Well, I have been wrong before.
Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10Thanks for the all of the replies. Still mulling over my options. I am leaning towards a new desktop and keep the other one off line. I could then try to install AE. My current desktop is 7 years old and was built for me by someone who is no longer in business. I do have a new tech guy, but he doesn't do builds anymore. He has too much work with business clients.
I plan on getting a bid on a desktop through this company, but I don't know what would be good with the current tech. Any recommendations? The manager is a friend of our SIL. https://www.microcenter.com/ aka Cheryl

Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10I moved to Windows 10 and have had zero issues with any programs at all. I too use Encore CS6 and Dreamweaver CS4 as well as all of the Adobe cloud versions of everything. I was very impressed with moving from Windows 7 to 10 actually. I don't think it is an upgrade unless you upgrade to version 8 and then 10, which I think that I did on one machine. Anyone remember the process, it's been awhile since I did that.

Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10This place is not inexpensive, but you will get a well built computer here:
https://www.pugetsystems.com/ I purchased one a couple of years ago and have been happy with it.
Re: Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10I purchased something similar to this on Amazon couple years ago and have been extremely happy with it. I did upgrade the memory and video card but that was it. Good ratings and reviews. It is AMD instead of Intel, I have had no issues at all and the price is very competitive
