Specific to Premiere Elements version 14

My current system - Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H Motherboard - i5 4690K 3.5Ghz CPU - 32 Gb RAM - Radeon HD5450 1Gb Graphic Card
Can I just upgrade to a faster i5 or even an i7 CPU with the above setup? Is it just a matter of a straight exchange and am I likely to see any advantage?
PC is used for large RAW files in Photoshop and 4k video in Premiere Elements

A lot of video work involves CPU intense processing so, yes, a faster CPU will make a difference though it would be hard to quantify with precision exactly how much difference will be made.
Your present CPU has a benchmark of 7796.
An i7 CPU compatible with your motherboard (which has a CPU socket LGA1150) - for example the i7 9700K - has a benchmark of 17272. So faster, certainly. But worth the cost?

Also remember that a processor is only one part of your system. There's a whole bus system that connects all the stuff in your computer.
Dropping a new processor into your computer is like dropping a bigger engine into your car. Yes, it will definitely make your car run faster --- but you'll get so much better performance with a new car.
And considering the cost of a new computer vs. the cost of a new processor, I'd just get a new computer.
But I certainly welcome other points of view.

+1 for that.

Thank you Steve and John
Good advice - I think I'll stick to what I've got for now as it is working ok. I just hoped there might be a quick fix to speed it up.

for example the i7 9700K
Unfortunately it's more complicated than than. The chipset also needs to support the processor so the 9700K won't work. The supported list of processors is here: https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard ... upport-cpuSo the fastest I5 is the Core i5-4690K - which you currently have. The fastest I7 is the Core i7-4790K - This is a bit faster clock - but has hyperthreading. Currently $347.18 from newegg which is probably going to give at best a 25%-30% speed uplift. As Steve says - a faster processor will only make a real difference if this is the limiting factor in your system.
Intel Core i7 8700 - 32GB DDR4 - 500GB Evo 970 SSD - 3+2 TB HDD - GTX 1080- MSI Z370 Pro - Win10 64 bit - Cannon HV30 (PAL) - Sony A6000 - GoPro 3 Black

Good point, Chris. I hadn't got as far as working that out.
