Bit of a mystery here. Everything was working as expected until very recently.
All of my photos are held on a NAS and are accessed across the network for processing in Photoshop (CS6) on a desktop. When using Bridge previously, all photos were diplayed correctly.
I am not aware that anything changed but now, when accessing the photos on the NAS via Bridge, all entries - folders and files - show a padlock symbol and, whenever I try to open an image, Windows Media Player fires up.
I have a temporary workaround in that if I map the NAS based Photo directory as a network drive all is well but that solution is not ideal.
Any hints greatly appreciated to help me fathom out what is causing this behaviour.

Obvious question but has the drive been locked by the operating system?

Thanks for the pointer, Steve. A quick check of File and Printer Sharing settings solved the issue. The mystery remains though - how did the settings get changed in the first place?

That sounds like a Windows Update glitch.

Spot on Sidd. Windows update yesterday and all padlocks were re-instated - now removed again.

Darn it! I really do not know what is going on. All was working perfectly well until the last Windows update.
Padlocks all now back in place and no matter what I do I cannot get rid of them. As a workaround I can designate my Photo directory on the NAS as a remote drive on my PC but that does not address the basic question as to why something is causing the files to be padlocked when I try to access them using Adobe Bridge.
Any hints/insights greatly appreciated.

This is beginning to sound a bit like a ransomware hit, John. And I pray that's not the case -- and that you have good backups.
Except that you have no problems accessing these drives and files with Windows File Explorer, right? The files and drives are accessible -- just not with Bridge?
And does this problem only affect files on one of your drives? Your documents and photos on your C drive work just fine, right?

I don't think that it is ransomware, Steve, as it is only directories on the NAS that are causing problems and only with Bridge. And, yes, I do have a good backup system so in the event of anything truly untoward I can go back many generations.
All other directories on the NAS are fully accessible as normal in Explorer but all media directories that should be accessible by Bridge are shown as locked.
I have checked and re-checked the permissions on the NAS but can find no problems there. Everything had been working correctly until just a few days ago and the only recent change has been a Windows update. The problem is that I do not know where to even begin looking but all of the pointers seem to be directed at something in Windows.

Whatever is going on, I'm glad you've eliminated the possibility of an ransomware attack. My mother-in-law lost her whole collection of pictures of documents to a ransomware attack.
I'm also glad that it's limited to problems with Bridge. At least you can still use the computer!

You could try System Restore.
