Specific to Premiere Elements version 15
by Chicago9 » Mon Nov 27, 2017 7:42 pm
Greg I'm cooking up my end of the year family travel video. I've shot video in 4k - 3840x2160.
When I go to "export" or render the video, I used the Ultra 4K option, and cranked up the quality to the highest setting. An 8 min video becomes a 268 MB file (yet, Adobe Elements estimates the file to be 12.3 GB!).
I then changed the export setting to HD 1080 (1920x1080), and the rendered file is 1.6 GB.
I'd like to preserve the highest quality possible for future generations - any suggestions? Do I stick with the HD option?

You appear to be working with a version of Premiere Elements. Which version are you working with, Jim, and on what operating system?
If you look under the program's Edit menu, what is listed on the General page under Project Settings?
How do you plan to use the 4k video you're outputting? An optimum setting for a video that is going to be loaded to YouTube is not the same as an optimum setting for a video that is going to be edited.

Steve - sorry for the slow response, I was travelling on business.
I'm using Elements 15 Windows 10 The project setting are 3840x2160, 30 fps
I'm interested in getting the highest resolution possible for watching on a 4k TV (and archiving for someone to laugh in 40 years!)
Thanks.

I guess I'm still not clear how you're going to play the video on your TV.
Will it be played from a thumb drive, cast from a computer, streamed from YouTube or played on a UHD disc player?

I've heard of a problem similar to what you describe. There may be an issue with gpu acceleration when rendering ultra 4k at max. Check your preferences and try turning gpu acceleration off to see if that makes a difference. Regarding quality, you are probably going overboard with "max." You can't get higher quality than your source. You can render to a higher bitrate, but that only increases the file size. If there is an option to match the source, use that. Otherwise try medium. Truth be told I am watching TV on a 12k set, the only drawback is that I can only get old reruns of I love Lucy.... Sidd

Thanks guys - good comedy with the chatter.
Greg - I use a computer and connect it via HDMI to a 4k TV.
I'll try the acceleration tactic
