Last night PBS ran a Big Pacific: Behind the Scenes episode. I love watching the behind the scenes episode to see how they capture such awesome footage. well 20 minutes in I was shocked to see them watching horizontal footage in portrait mode on a smartphone... imagine the injustice... lol

One disadvantage of portrait mode is that even though you have a photo or video that is 1920 pixels in height, for example, it will be resized to 1080 pixels in height (width resized proportionately) when displayed on many 1920x1080p TVs and monitors. That's a quite a loss of detail. I've been using a pair of Kodak cameras for 3D. But now I have two identical smartphones and am eager to see how well those work. Trouble with these devices is the frame rate varies, so when panning, the frame for the left eye doesn't exactly match the frame for the right eye.
