Why am I all of a sudden losing the settings on my Sony HDR-XR550 camcorder? I take the battery out, and poof! When I turn it on, the settings are gone.
I must've changed something.

Re: losing settings on my Sony camcorderThere are two batteries: The one you recharge, that attaches to the outsides of the camcorder -- and an internal battery (very small) that holds your settings for date, time, etc.
If you're losing your settings whenever you remove your battery, I'd check that internal battery. HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: losing settings on my Sony camcorderThose batteries need to be replaced sometimes as well, it isn't often but they do go bad on occasion.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.
2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Re: losing settings on my Sony camcorderIt's in there some place. Otherwise you'd have lost all your date and time information every time you took your big batteries out.

Re: losing settings on my Sony camcorderWell, now, that is a pretty good point.

Re: losing settings on my Sony camcorderThere is an internal rechargeable battery, but it's not a user maintenance item. It's inside the camera body and requires some disassembly to get to it. Sears has parts diagrams for the HDR-XR550V, not sure whether this matches your camera though. The battery is on the electronic viewfinder circuit board (see the diagram for Evf Asy) called out as part BT73, Parts #: 175613412.
Have you tried recharging the internal battery? The user guide says plug the camcorder into the AC outlet using the charging adaptor and let it charge overnight with the viewfinder off.
Re: losing settings on my Sony camcorderI took Bob's advice. Looks like my problem is fixed. Thanks, guys.
Once again, what would I do without my paid membership in muvipix? I don't even want to think about it! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
Re: losing settings on my Sony camcorder Bob, you should really have your own TV show
