cropping the video picture itselfHow do you "crop" your video like you do a picture - show just the face of someone talking, for example, rather than the whole screen? (Again, we have the book but I'm not finding that information in there.) A friend showed us it could be done but he's moved away and we don't remember what he did.

Re: cropping the video picture itselfBy using the Crop Effect
Add the effect to your clip and then in the effect properties use the sliders to narrow down the area that you want to keep, see screen shots below. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. 1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.
2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
Re: cropping the video picture itselfThere is also a free video tutorial on the Clip and Crop effects. It is version 4 but the principle and method is still pretty much the same. The interface has changes a little but it should still be easy to follow.

Re: cropping the video picture itselfThank you. Is there a way to make what you crop into the full screen?

Re: cropping the video picture itselfClick on the video clip in the viewer and drag to the size needed. Or, In the effects control menu increase the video size to the desired amount. Be aware that this will decrease the resolution of the video. You are doing a digital zoom. If you are just going to resize the video there is no need to crop.

Re: cropping the video picture itselfWhen you are dragging to change the size of the video in the viewer, is there something that tells you how much you are enlarging the final picture so you can do it consistently?

Re: cropping the video picture itselfSelect the clip in the timeline. Open the applied effects panel. Click on the arrowhead to the left of Motion to expand and open the effect controls. The Scale property will show the value. You can also enter the scale value here rather than drag the video in the viewer.
Re: cropping the video picture itselfThat works!! Thank you! Is there a way to scale it more precisely than just using the mouse? I find it really hard to get it right with the mouse and the control keys don't seem to work it.

Re: cropping the video picture itselfYou can manually type in the scale amount.

Re: cropping the video picture itselfWhat Steve said: click on the displayed scale value and it will turn into an entry field where you can type in the desired value.
Re: cropping the video picture itselfThank you again. We don't have a teenager, or even an elementary school age kid for that matter, around and I'm sure they would figure this out intuitively. It takes us older folks longer. Every little bit helps though... Sure appreciate it.

Re: cropping the video picture itselfMaybe, but I'm not telling...
Next basic question. After I have been playing around cropping and expanding and moving the picture within the frame, is there an easy way to get the program to totally center either the original video again or the cropped video if I have cropped it off center?
