Re: Hate Windows 8?I've been looking for the update all morning on Windows Update. It was supposed to have been released today.
I'm slowly becoming a fan of Windows 8. It really performs very nicely. I still don't like the Metro interface -- but I'm really looking forward to the 8.1 update. EDIT I finally found it by rooting around in the Windows Store. I assume it will eventually be an automatic update though. HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: Hate Windows 8?It still doesn't give you the Start button/menu functionality of previous versions. I'm using a great little utility called Startisback that makes everything okay again. Lots of customizable options. It's $3.00 for two computers and they just released a new version for the 8.1 update that's free to previous users. If I recall it's got a free trial period too.

I'm not sure it will be - but apparently the servers are swamped at the moment - It's a 3.5 GB download - give it a few days.. Intel Core i7 8700 - 32GB DDR4 - 500GB Evo 970 SSD - 3+2 TB HDD - GTX 1080- MSI Z370 Pro - Win10 64 bit - Cannon HV30 (PAL) - Sony A6000 - GoPro 3 Black
Re: Hate Windows 8?lol... Windows H8.
I kill me. Dell Studio XPS 8100, Intel Core i7 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 64-Bit Win7. Camera gear: 2x Canon 550D's, 1x Canon EOS 6D body, Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 & 17-50mm f2.8, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 & 24-70mm f/2.8L, and two 420EX flashes.
Re: Hate Windows 8?True, the new Start button doesn't behave like the Windows 7 Start button. It just takes you to the Metro interface.
But right-clicking on it gives you a lot of the old Start button's options. HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: Hate Windows 8?I use Windows 8 on 2 of my computers ever since it came out and I really love it. I don't really get people's obsession with the missing Start button. I don't ever miss it and have no reason to use it.
For every app I use frequently I have a Quick Launch button on my taskbar, and a Tile on the Metro interface ( which I hardly ever use). The only thing I use on the Metro interface is my Desktop tile, which is big and pops right out from the rest. Should I need something from the All Apps screen I hit the Win + Q button on my keybord, type a couple of letters of the name of the app I'm looking for and bingo, there it is. It takes me a lot longer to find what I'm looking for on my XP mashine and even on Win7 with the Start button. Not to offend anyone, this are just my 3cents on the topic. I think, for the most part, people simply despise change. Regards,

Re: Hate Windows 8?
Gerlinde, I'm still on Win 7, but Mr. B has a new Win 8 laptop. What he really, really hates is the Charms Bar, which frankly, I don't find very charming! Every time he goes to the upper right corner to try to close a web page (and that's all he does - internet, not even email), the blasted charms bar pops out and takes over the screen. I've spent hours trying to lock up the charms bar but if it is possible, I haven't found a way. Re: Hate Windows 8?
I know that I certainly despise change just for change's sake. And I certainly think the idea of trying to make desktop computers look like cellphones/tablets was a poor decision. No offense here to anyone except the person or persons who made that decision and I doubt any of us was involved. Be yourself; everyone else is taken.

Re: Hate Windows 8?
Paz, I have never run into that problem. Even if I have the window maximized I can always reach the X to close the window. If the charms bar should pops out, it won't cover the X. I'm using a 15in notebook and it is never a problem. Could it be your screen resolution is not setup right? You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
