Actually, 1000x750 is what you should size your landscape photos to, Steven.
For portrait photos, you should ideally resize them to 750x1000.
But if you're batch resizing and you don't want to dig around, separating your portrait from your landscape photos, you can also just set the Width to 1000 and keep the box labeled Constrain Proportions checked. Then you don't have to fill in the Height and the program will just resize all of the photos proportionately.
This will mean that your portrait photos will end up 1000 pixels wide and about 1300 pixels tall -- but that's okay.That's not so large that you're going to overload the program.
