Mattes

Postby NuffRespeck » Fri Mar 23, 2012 10:19 am

Hi there! I am seeking information on how to apply mattes in Pre10. My search of the Muvipix site and the Internet has not turned up any EASY TO FOLLOW instructions.
I am currently working with AVIs from Digital Hotcakes and would like to have still images shown through the AVIs. Would appreciate any suggestions. [-o< [-o< Thanks!

If you're talking about the Track Matte, here's a simple tutorial I recently did called "Track Matte".

I don't know if we can make it easier than that. My "Cool Tricks & Hot Tips" book takes you step by step through the process of creating a number of effects with the Track Matte.

What exactly is it you're trying to do?

Steve, thank you for your quick response. I am using wedding themed animated clips (AVIs) with bouquets, flowers, butterflies etc. What I would like to do is have the clip playing in the background as the still appears. Is track matting the means by which I could "cut a hole" in the clip so that the still can be seen while the clip plays? I'll access the link that you provided to see if that has the answer that I seek. Thanks again! By-the-way, I bought a copy of your book "The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 (Color Version)" earlier today.

That's exactly what the Track Matte does, Nuff! So have a look at the tutorial. It will show you how simple it is.

If you just want a simple "picture in picture" look, you could just scale and position the images on a video track over the background track. You don't always need to complicate things. If you are using sceneview, switch to timeline view.
