rendering

Postby The Director » Mon Mar 19, 2012 9:41 am

Just finished editing a project at 1 hour 10 minutes in length. After I render, playing the project is just fine. When I finish my session I save and close to return at a later time. When I do the project opens as an un-rendered project. Shouldn't the project stay rendered? In addition, when I first upload all my footage to PRE and then started to build the timeline, a widow appeared relating to stabilization of the clip. I said yes and moved on. I assumed PRE noticed something in those clips. Smoothing was what I said okay to. Those clips always needed to be re-rendered. So within stabilization I selected correction. Rendered the project and had all green. As above, when I returned to the project those clips all transitions were in the red.

Can you tell us more about your system?

What operating system are you using? 32-bit or 64-bit? How fast is your processor, how much RAM do you have and how much free, clean, defragmented space is on your main or C drive?

Is your video project on your main or C hard drive or on a second or external drive?

The problem you describe, with the program needing to re-render the timeline every time you re-open it, was a big problem in version 8 and 9 -- but was remedied in version 10. Something in your system's configuration -- or possibly your source video -- is confounding it.

So the more details you can tell us about your system and your project's set-up, the more likely we'll be able to figure out what it is.

(Also, of course, ensure you have the latest version of Quicktime, a necessary component in the program's work.)

My system is an IMAC os 10.7.3 Lion. 4GB ram, PRE 10 installed on C drive. Project video on C drive. 45 GB free on drive. Source video: Cannon GL-2 SD camera. footage transferred camera to HD. As for the fact some of my clips generated a stabilization note which I said yes too, could that be a factor. My footage has no discernible video or sound issues. I realize that I don't have a large amount of free space on my drive and things do run very slowly, what with a 74 minute video. I do plan to get a designated 3TB 3.0, eSata, fire wire HD for my editing when this project is put to rest.

Sorry, Director. I don't see anything in your specs that would lead to a problem. (You're a bit tight on free space, but you've certainly got enough.)

I edit on a very similar machine and never have a problem with the program remembering rendered video.

Although I'm using a PC, I came across this problem too. Here is a link to a previous topic, where we discussed the issue and RJ posted a possible solution.

I found that any clips that have the Stabilizer effect on them will lose any rendered previews the next time you open the project. There's no workaround for that except to buy the Prodad Mercalli Stabilizer plug-in.
