? for Steve Grisetti

Postby Barb O » Tue Feb 07, 2012 3:36 pm

Hi Steve,
My thoughts originated from a question over on the Adobe PE forum. However, I decided to bring my specific questions over here for a discussion separate from the current dilemma of the poster over on the Adobe forum.

Camera is Canon Powershot SX 20 IS and the dpreview.com web site says
Format H.264
Microphone Stereo
Resolutions 1280 x 720 (30 fps) 640 x 480 (30 fps), 320 x 240 (30, 15 fps)

I looked in your PE 10 book, but I am not sure - What is the correct project setting in PE 10 for the 1280 720 (30 fps) H.264 video ? and also for the 640 x 480 ?

Why did you say that PE 10 may not be able to use the Stabilizer effect on video from this camera ?

I guess I assumed a Powershot would shoot MJPEG -- which often doesn't behave like "normal" camcorder video.

But it appears to shoot (now that I've looked at the specs) in non-AVC standard H.264. Probably Mp4s.

So my first guess for project settings would be the DSLR 1280x720 settings. Although I wouldn't be surprised to find the the Flip HD settings work even better.

I guess I should have gone into more detail with regard to the Stabilizer effect. Like asking her which settings she used for the effect. Or if she she's any effect at all when she adds the Stabilizer effect to it.

Steve and Barb,

I just tried the Stabilizer in PRE10 and had some interesting results. I used the AVCHD Lite 1280x720p30 preset.

I put two clips (the same file) on the timeline and put the Stabilizer with the same settings on both clips, and then I rendered a preview. The stabilization on the first clip was okay. The stabilization on the second clip went haywire.

The video I used was 1280x720p29.97fps, MP4-h264/AAC created in Premiere Elements 10.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that there is something wrong with the stabilizer.

I don't think you're going out on a limb at all, Robert. I think it's very likely that the Stabilizer doesn't work 100% of the time on 100% of the video you feed it.
