Upgraded from PE4 to PE10

Postby Robino » Wed Sep 28, 2011 7:15 pm

Wow, I haven't been on this forum for a long time. I recently upgraded from PE4 to PE10 because I use PE4 for video editing and just assumed PE10 would offer more/better editing since I have 2 weddings coming up real soon and will have to do alot of video editing. One thing I noticed is that some of the transitions I have in PE4, like GPU Sphere, would automatically be there and more. Can someone tell why it looks like I have less in PE10 than I had in PE4 -- I really think I didn't need to upgrade at all. I admit I did not research too much, but since I was so comfortable with PE4 that it was time to upgrade -- did I just waste money? ](*,)

Thanks - Robin

Well, it depends. Are there features you upgraded to get? (We list all the new features at http://Muvipix.com/pe10.php ). Version 10 does have some nice new features -- as well as a much more efficient engine for working with hi-def and AVCHD.

But Adobe did remove the GPU effects and transitions. They were causing too many problems. And they replaced them with some cool new effects and transitions from NewBlue.

But if those GPU effects were a dealbreaker and you don't shoot much AVCHD video -- then, yeah, upgrading may not have been such a good idea.

If you've still got PRE4, there is no reason not to use it.

And you can probably return 10 for credit (like I did with 8). Note that you don't need to actually send anything. Adobe will deactivate your serial number and credit your account.

It's funny but I am still working with four as well. I'm pretty happy with it. :-D

Instead of downloading the trial and possibly subsequently buying it from Adobe as in the past, I bought the Elements bundle for the first time on Amazon, where I get 2-day Prime shipping, and here is what I just discovered:

Amazon does not accept returns of software that have been opened.

:what:

So, my comment about obtaining credit may not apply, if you did not purchase your software from Adobe.

I'm also not going to return the bundle just yet.

The PSE10 Organizer and Editor are definitely "zippier" than PSE7's (don't know why as both are 32-bit); unfortunately, I'm not aware of any method for creating a slide show with the 10 Organizer and then sending it to PRE7 for the final edit.

Amazon does say that software and other products that are not returnable for credit can be returned for sale, however, I plan to keep the bundle for a while and wait for Steve's book that covers PSE10 so I can fully explore it. I did that with PSE9 and thereby discovered a number of features of PSE9 of which I had been unaware and that I occasionally use.
