Steve: Move Some of the Appendix to the Front?

Postby George Tyndall » Sat Sep 24, 2011 5:38 pm

Steve, I'm looking at the TOC of your book on Amazon and just now remembering that I forgot to ask this with your past books: Is there a reason not to put some of that material about optimizing and maintaining one's computer at the beginning of the book rather than at the end?

The reason I ask is that it seems more logical that one would wish to get one's computer "tuned" before one begins to learn and use the program, so that it will run as efficiently as possible during the learning process.

An interesting thought, George! I guess I used the more traditional appendix-in-back format because I figured people would be more interested in getting right into the program than in tuning up their computers. And, of course, being in the back of the book makes it seem more like as-needed reference material.

But I definitely see your point!

A compromise might be to put a paragraph somewhere near the beginning of the book, entitled perhaps Before You Start, that directs the reader to the Appendiceal information at the end of the book before s/he begins to learn the program.

BTW, as in the past, does Adobe allow one to install the latest versions of PRE/PSE but still keep and use the previous versions?

Good suggestions, George! And I will definitely make more references to the Appendix in future editions of the book.

Meantime --

Yes, you can certainly have more than one version of the program on your computer. In fact, Chuck and I keep several older versions on our computers so that we can refer to them when helping people.

And, as in the past, you can have the program installed on two different computers as long as both copies are registered to you and you don't run it on both computers at the same time. (The box, by the way, includes, I believe, a regular PC version of the program, a Mac version AND a 64-bit Windows 7 version as well as content discs.)
