When I save as MP2...

Postby BuddyB » Sun Feb 22, 2015 6:42 pm

..I get no audio on the finished product. I save to harddrive as 720X480 24p, so I'm at a loss. Any suggestions appreciated. :conf: Never mind, checking closer I found out why. My real issue is that the MP4 is not plaing on a DVD player and Tv. Any ideas what I'm overlooking?

Does your DVD player play MP4s? Most do not.

MPEG2 and MPEG4 are two different animals. For standard def DVD the encoding will be MPEG2. For Blue-Ray DVD and HD the encoding will be MPEG4.

Also for a DVD you will need to author the DVD which is more that copying the file to DVD. Some of the new DVD players will play files "copied" to the DVD but most will not. There is also a huge gap in the brands of DVD's that will play on certain machines, as well as what brand of DVD player will accept what kind of media.

If it sounds confusing..... it is. :)

DVD format, Buddy. And I'm not being a smart aleck. ;)

As Sidd says, DVD video is made up of VOB files, which are a form of MPEG2. You can't output a VOB file directly from Vegas or any other video editing program -- unless the program specifically has a DVD output feature. (Movie Studio Platinum does.) Unless a video editing program has DVD authoring features built into it (as Premiere Elements and CyberLink PowerDirector do), you can't just spit out a file from the program, copy it to a DVD and get a playable DVD.

Are you editing with Movie Studio 13 Platinum?

Buddy,
you might want to go back to an earlier thread and take a look there?

VK thanks I'd forgotten that..too much going on in my life. Thanks everyone; think I have it figured out now. Went into advanced on MP2 and was able to save file to the HD with sound. :pull: I guess I can quit scratching my head now. Plus I did go "DVD" also in Movie Making options. More than one way to skin that cat.

That still won't make a disc that will play in your DVD player, Buddy. If that's what you're going for.

The file plays fine in Windows Media Player, but I guess that won't xfer to disc properly?

No.

Just to be clear -- you're trying to make a disc that will play in your DVD player, right?

Also, just to be clear -- are you editing with the Platinum version of Movie Studio 13?

Yes, my DVD on the Smart Tv. Just for the heck of it I saved the file as an MP2; went in to advanced selecting Main Format MP2 and NTSC. I burned the file I saved and it played on my DVD player. Now I made this for someone else, so we'll see if it will play on their DVD/Tv. And at the moment all of my work is on MS13. Premier is going to be a slow learn for me. :)

I'm wondering which file you saved and burned. And by Main Format you mean MainConcept?
If you have a short project (well under 60 mins) and do not need any menus on your DVD, maybe it would be best for you just to go the Make Movie > Burn it to DVD... > DVD route. All you need to do there is pick the NTSC option you want under Video Format and burn to get a playable DVD.

Exactly what I was going to suggest, vk! :)

Assuming he wants a DVD and assuming he's using the Platinum version of Movie Studio.
