A Question regarding naming and numbering clips

Postby artsoul » Sun Jul 06, 2014 5:42 am

Hi Folks,

Hope you are all well :)

Here's what i am trying to do

I am recording a piece of music and I want to make an accompanying video.

The music is being put together from improvisations on various instruments so I filmed myself improvising.

The music will have all the parts moved about to make it work, what I am wanting to do is have the video and music staying in sync ( Difficult because I am using separate programs for each.
What I have done in my DAW is taken each recording and cut it into bar long sections and used the automatic numbering function to number them all.
What I want Movie studio to do is the same thing.
ie.
select the video ( which I have synced up already using a fingerclick sound ) have movie maker cut the video on each barline ( I'm using the ruler set at barlines and the correct tempo) ,
Number all the files created so I would have envelope filter bass 1, envelope filter bass 2 etc.

Then when I have the finished music I just need to look at the numbering in my DAW and copy that in moviestudio....bingo all the footage syncs up with the new music edits.

Can anybody help with this.....can movie studio do what I ask without having to cut and number each one individually ( which would take hours )

Thanks in advance

Andy

Well, you don't say which program you're using to edit your footage, Andy. But, if you're using Vegas Pro, multi-camera editing is very easy -- and the program is designed to do just what you're trying to do.

Not so with Sony Movie Studio, which doesn't have a multi-camera editing feature. Keeping several live recordings in sync and switching back and forth between them is a bit of a chore, and there's no easy way to do it.

You can do it, of course. But it's not nearly as simple as it is in Vegas Pro.

Hi Steve, thanks for the prompt reply, I'm using Moviestudio 11......its not so much the multifootage thats the issue, I'll try and re-explain

Here's what i want to do

Take a piece of footage
with snap enabled move to next snap point ( in my case bars )
slice at that point
then when i have all the footage cut into bars I want to rename them with sequential numbering..

Is this do-able?

Cheers
