MS13 silent and freezing

Postby BuddyB » Fri May 16, 2014 10:32 pm

I do not know what has begun to happen. I open the file and no sound. The master audio indicator on the right is all the way at the bottom, locked won't move. I go into Preferences and the thing is on one of the MS Sound Mappers. I drop it down and there are three to choose from. First time I chose Wav and it worked. Repeated all this and it does nothing but freeze. The only thing I've done is when I want to record with the mic I have to go into Control Panel/Sound and change from Via to Mic, and back again when I'm through. :conf:

Sometimes Windows computers switch both the audio outputs and audio inputs to your USB source when you plug a USB microphone into your computer. Usually it switches back to your standard outputs when you unplug the USB -- but sometimes the system gets confused.

If you unplug the microphone and reboot your computer, everything should reset. (You shouldn't need to do this, but sometimes it fixes things if nothing else does.)

The mic has a 1/8" plug and goes directly into the sound card. Now, for whatever the reason I get no sound in the system whatsoever. Maybe the sound card died? However, MS13, where the issue began, locks up with the first attempted activity, then I go into the Task Mgr and shut it down. Control Panel/sound/VIA HD Audio Deck looks normal, and as always. Computer says everything (Hardware/software) is working normally. This has got me scratching my head.

Not sure what's up, Buddy. But I'd first check my Windows Sound configuration and see if it's set up right.

And, again, make sure you unplug the microphone and give it a good reboot before you panic. Windows 7 actually senses when you plug a microphone into the sound card (or headphones) and does some automatic reconfiguring. Unplugging the device usually cues it to reset. But if that doesn't work, a reboot should clear it.

Steve, thanks for being there. I finally resolved the issue in MS13. Unbeknown to me at some point the program apparently changed the Dynamic RAM usage. I kicked it up from 256 to 500 and that resolved that issue. Windows obviously has more than one location to mute the speakers. I found that and corrected. I do have audio but there's a tweak somewhere that I need to find. Any audio I play has a reverb applied that I need to eliminate. So far I haven't found it, but it's gotta' be there somewhere. Physically nothing has changed, but I messed with this thing so much that I must have triggered something. Onward and upward. :)

You might have sound effects or reverb turned on. Your mother board has a built-in VIA audio chipset. If you are using the built-in audio, try opening the VIA HD Audio controls in the Windows control panel and check how you have it set up. If you installed a soundcard, there should be something similar. You may need to change the control panel from category view to one of the icon views to find it.

All is normal again Bob, thanks. Everything was fine in the Via Audio Deck. What I found is when I disabled all enhancements in Control Panel/Sound that everything returned to normal, and the volume increased somewhat at the same time which pleases me. I don't have an expansive audio setup going into the computer, so I need everything the sound card will do. Thanks again.
