Making a preview of movie...

Postby BuddyB » Sat Mar 01, 2014 9:53 am

Similar to what you see on tv promoting action movies; of course a high school reunion will not do that trick unless they're all bringing weapons and explosives to the set. What I want to accomplish is making each segment, say 3 to 4 seconds. What is the best way to approach this? Stretching in and out does not appear to be consistent.

It's not clear what you're asking, Buddy. What effect are you trying to accomplish?

Can you link to a YouTube video that shows it?

Maybe something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF1KdyW32qM

Four action packed movie trailers.

Great examples, TreeTop!

And, Buddy, note how much sound and music plays a role in these trailers. Almost as much as the visual content.

That's how they can take a movie like "When Harry Met Sally" and turn it into a horror movie trailer.

Yeah buddy that's great :). Now containing my self from massive laughing hysteria, let's say I have 30 clips that I want each one 3 seconds. I can't tell in Vegas if I'm pushing to the same time point each time. I want each clip to be precisely 3 seconds each and I'm not sure how to approach this.

If you click on the bar along the top of the Timeline panel, you find the option for adding Grid Spacing. Select the option to divide your timeline grid into seconds. That will give you a pretty precise grid to snap to.

That worked beautifully for me. I now have a preview of a close to hour down to just a bit under 2 mins..love it. Thanks Steve. I finally found the Mixer and the tab that brings it forward. I must have tapped it some way to make it go away. The only thing is that it doesn't seem to allow for you to have both on at the same time, and I've had that before.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I gotta say this...

Steve, thanks for sharing that "When Harry Met Sally horror movie" trailer. That was absolutely amazing. The trailer makes you think the movie is a suspenseful story of a stalker, not a love comedy. Whoever did that project used dramatic audio and creative editing to give the movie a completely different feel. If you had never watched the movie but watched that trailer first, you would be shocked if you then saw the actual movie.

The audio was the critical component in the trailer, so dark and foreboding.

I knew that audio was important in video, but that piece really opened my eyes to the power of audio in video.
