rerendering

Postby targa912 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 4:06 pm

I have about 30 clips. I am making rough changes to them such as cutting out unwanted footage, contrast color corrections then rendering them to work on another one. Some will need further work. If I bring them back into MS to make other adjustments after having rendered them do I lose quality? Thanks.

Question: What format are you rendering to initially?

Still not sure I'm set up correctly. Using a Sony SR 200. Was using SMS12 but it kept crashing so I'm back to SMS10. Importing mpg files into SMS10. Project properties are set at NTSC DV Widescreen 720x480 29.970 fps (template). W: 720 H:480 Frame rate 29.970 fps. Field order lower field first. Pixel aspect ratio 1.2121. Full rez Best. De interlace method blend. When I go to render it, I have it set at avi. Is this correct?

Looks right to me. You might consider choosing a small 5 second clip that shows motion and rendering it multiple times using some different settings just to experiment, particularly the frame blending mode and the de-interlacing method.

Make sure that you've set your project settings to match your video specs. You should be able to do that on the Video Project Properties screen. Also, as I show you in the book, make sure that on that screen you have Deinterlacing Method set to Interpolate Fields and that you have the option checked for Adjust Source Media To Better Match Project Settings.

For your Render As, choose Video for Windows AVI with the DV template.

Because of the format your camcorder shoots, you are going to lose a bit of video quality when you go from MPEG to AVI, but it shouldnt' be significant enough for you to even notice. And version 12 should do a better job than version 10 at doing this. But, if you can't get 12 working, version 10 should work fine.
