syncing two audio tracks

Postby ausdlk » Fri Nov 22, 2013 9:30 pm

Using Movie Studio Platinum 12, Build 896.

Is there a way automatically sync audio recorded on an external recorder (a WAV) file with the audio attached to the video from a camera?

I'm new to video editing and saw this done with just a couple of clicks in Final Cut Pro X.

I'm PC only so I am investigating MSP12 as my editing software.

There's no automatic way to do this -- but it shouldn't be that hard if you use an audio/visual cue. (It's why Hollywood filmmakers use a clapper -- so that they can sync the audio snap with video of the clapper closing.)

Look for something in the video that is both an audio and visual moment -- like a cough or a door closing. Then line them up on the timeline.

I don't know any other way to do it.

We've got a two part tutorial on syncing clips in Premiere Elements, shouldn't be too much different in Vegas. Steve is correct, find something that gives not only an audio sync point but visual as well. Then it is just a good ear and moving one of the clips a few frames at a time until they are synced :)

:) Steve when you mentioned clapper in H'wood I thought (duh) it was a piece of software/hardware; didn't realize it was the clapboard thing you write on and pop. And chuck thanks for pointing out the syncing clips.

Zooming in on the timeline and looking at the wave forms helps too.
