Talk about the Sony Vegas line of products.

Hi Folks,
New member here......I have a couple of questions if that's ok.
I am using sony movie studio ( latest version )
What I am trying to do is edit together 3 different sets of camera footage from one concert.
I am trying to synchronise them just by lining them up, Is there a better way?
Can you lock the clips in place on the timeline?
Is there a way to " crossfade " the clips that are on different tracks without using the envelopes and nodes? ie......like doing crossfades on one track but vertically rahther than horizontally?
I'm not sure if what I am trying to do is the best way to approach it, any advice gratefully recieved.....Thanks in advance.
Andy

What you're doing is very easy in Vegas Pro, Andy. It has a Multicamera feature that allows you to layer the three views on top of one another and cut or fade between them with the click of a button.
It's a bit more complicated in Movie Studio.
First, lay down your "master" track. That's the video that gives you the best angle or the best sound. (Even better if you've got a high-quality separate audio recording.)
Then lay the next clip on a track above your master. Look for a loud sound or a camera flash or something that you can use to sync it to your master. Do the same with the third track on a video track above it. Once they're all synched, make sure Auto Ripple is turned off and delete all but one audio track.
Once that's done, you'll either slice and remove segments from the upper video tracks or use video envelopes to raise and the clips' opacity to reveal the video on the lower tracks and "cut" between views.
Yeah, I know. It's an ugly way to do it. But it's about the only way to do it in Movie Studio.

Thanks for that Steve I thought that that was the only way to do it ( It's a bit convoluted ), I might try the demo of vegas pro just to do this. Your book is great btw....this is how I ended up here Andy

Thanks, Andy.
Yes, that Multicamera feature along almost justifies the upgrade to Vegas Pro. I used it to cut video of my daughter's wedding between four camera angles and it was a breeze!
