Got Through My First Movie But...

Postby BuddyB » Wed Mar 20, 2013 9:17 pm

HD Movie Studio 10: it doesn't make sense; not enough room on the DVD. It's less than 50 mins. I'm trying to burn something from a previously prepared folder. Any thoughts on this appreciated.
Thanks, BuddyB

Can you give us a few more details, Buddy?

What steps are you taking to create your DVD files? Are you trying to burn your DVD directly from Movie Studio or are you running it through DVD Architect Studio?

You say you're trying to burn a previously prepared VIDEO_TS folder? If you right-click on this folder and select Properties, how large does Windows show this folder is?

I was using DVD Architech Studio and trying to burn a previously prepared video, the Video_TS folder, 2.57GB. In the past I would burn a DVD from Vegas by making movie, but that takes about 30 mins for it to get itself together, and at a point I would then go into Architech to burn the DVD, and It worked fine. This time I just plain prepared, and then tried to burn.

I'm sorry, Buddy, that still doesn't tell me enough about what you're doing and what file formats you're using to create your video and move your video from Vegas to DVD Architect.

Are you saying you've already created a VIDEO_TS folder -- and you're trying to recreate it? You're not trying to re-encode new VIDEO_TS files to a previously created folder, are you?

I apologize for not being able to explain myself properly. I will eventually get it together. File formats don't mean much to me at this point ( I do know .mpg), except that it'll be whatever file format Vegas does whenever you click Make Movie. The requester gives the option to prepare or burn DVD. I've done it both ways. When I burn there's absolutely no proplem. It eats up a little better than half the disk. When I prepare and put it in a folder with VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS that is when it is too big for the DVD, and I'm not trying to recreate the folder. I'm just trying burn what I've already prepared. I'll be ordering the book tomorrow, so maybe I can get some real education under my belt. Being an old radio production guy a lot of things have come naturally to me, but I've also made a lot of errors in approach, so the job has taken me much longer than it should have..and it's relatively a straight forward, simple project. I took the most expedient avenue because I knew if I didn't I would waste a lot of learning curve time. Thanks for being there.

When you right-click on the VIDEO_TS folder and select Properties, what size does windows show the folder to be? It should be well under 4 gigabytes, so it should fit on your disc okay.

If so, download the free program ImgBurn and select its Burn Folder option to burn this VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD disc. (No need to burn the AUDIO_TS folder. It's just extra data.)

That's my question; if you're "preparing to folder", what (software) are you using to then burn the folder to DVD? Usually the video editors will not burn these folders in that native state.

This could be the problem?

I'm using Architect DVD Ron, and it tells me I'm only using 2.57 gigs of info. Steve I'll download ImgBurn and use it. Is Architec DVD not sufficient unto itself? Thnks guys for the input.

DVD Architect should be able to burn a DVD from a prepared folder. It's not clear why you are having problems doing so. However, since you are having problems burning that folder, it certainly wouldn't hurt to burn the DVD from the prepared folder using Imgburn. Imgburn is very good at burning disks and the price is right (free).

I would recommend leaving the Audio_TS folder in along with the Video_TS folder for compatibility reasons. In most current DVD authoring applications, the Audio_TS folder is empty. However, some DVD players, especially older ones, require that that folder be present. Leaving it in will take up a trivial amount of space. DVD Architect will complain if the prepared folder does not contain the Audio_TS folder.

Thanks Bob, did download ImgBurn and will give it a shot this evening when I get home from work. The prob in Architec may, somehow, be me; haven't studie and worked with it long enough to really come anywhere close to proficient.
