Will PE9 work for avchd?

Postby PaulC » Fri Aug 12, 2011 11:02 pm

I recently switched from a canon vixia hv40 to a vixia hf m41 thanks to the incompetence of the geek guys. My trusty pe4 won't handle the avchd files so I have to upgrade. After researching on several forums I am still confused. What I want to be able to do is import the avchd files directly from my camcorder to an editor, edit it and export it. I have Sony VMS platinum 9 which can handle the avchd files but I find this program difficult to work with, I only bought it to export to the hv40. I read that pe9 only works with avchd 'lite' and that it can't export as avchd. Can pe9 work with all of the avchd files I can produce on the camcorder and can I save them after editing to something that I can play on the camcorder.

Premiere Elements 9 handles the files very well Paul but the next version is probably coming out sometime in late September, at least that has been the trend, it might be a good idea to hold off for that one if you can.

New doesn't necessarily mean improved. We've proved that more than once. :(

We all know that they are working on version 10 because they asked for testers openly.
I can't say anything about the new version or the testing but, I will say that I think you will be pleasantly surprised this time around Dave :)

So they're going to give back all of the stuff they previously took away AND make it 64 bit? Sounds good! :-D

Don't worry Chuck. I don't expect for a moment for anyone to divulge anything. I'm just funning around.

Thanks for all the advice. I got pe9 on Amazon for $70 - a $20 dollar rebate so if ver 10 is a big improvement I assume adobe will have an upgrade price!!. I don't think I can go too far wrong for $50.

The professional packages do have upgrade packages at a reduced price. But, Adobe doesn't provide upgrade packages for the consumer level products (Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements). You have to buy the full retail package if you want to have the new version. Adobe does offer a free post announcement upgrade if you bought the old version after the new version was announced. But, the new version hasn't been announced.

Silly me. I'd still like to think that Adobe will live up to its reputation, one of these days. :)
