Simple editing question

Postby Ron Hunter » Wed Jun 08, 2011 11:04 am

Let's pretend I have a 30 minute timeline with dozens of items scattered across multiple audio and video tracks. Suddenly I decide I need to insert something on the timeline at the 2 minute point, and I need for everything to be pushed out and still maintain proper timing relationship across all of the tracks when I do this.

What command will do this for me?

Thanks!

If you just drag the clip down into your timeline at the 2-minute point, it should split and ripple right automatically.

Though you may want to position the CTI and slice through all tracks of video and audio first, just so you can have a bit more control over exactly where your movie splits for the insert.

If you have a soundtrack, music track or narration track that you don't want split it is going to be a little more difficult.
You can move these tracks out of the way and then move them back after inserting the new clip. If you haven't added any music yet that will make things easier.

There are a couple of ways to move clips around that produce different results, watch the tutorial

"Adding Clips to the Timeline"
That will help explain the key combinations to hold while you move clips and how they work.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
