Need help creating a title with updated scores

Postby Ron Hunter » Sun May 29, 2011 8:29 pm

I am looking for a simple way to create a title that uses the same attributes (color/font/size) throughout a movie but changes its characters along the way:
- The video is of me and my kids playing "Horse" (basketball game).
- I want to create a title with each of our names and "letter count" that displays on the bottom of the screen.
- When one of us misses a shot, I want to update the "letter count" so the viewer knows the score.

I created a "score tracker" title with colors/spacing and inserted it on the timeline (video 2). When someone missed a shot I needed to update the "letter count", so I tried to copy/paste the original title at the correct position and update the "letter count". The problem is that the "letter count" was also automatically updated for all instances.

I tried dragging "Title01" from the "Organize" panel onto the timeline...same effect. I also tried cutting a title on the timeline and only updating one half of the clip...same effect.

Is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Ron, instead of using copy, right-click on the title in the Organizer and select Duplicate. This will create another title based on the original that you can edit separately without affecting the first.

EDIT: Per correction below, not the Organizer, the Organize tab, Project subheading.

Dave's correct, you want to duplicate the title. But, you select it in the project panel, not the Organizer.
