How can wmv clips be edited in with mts clips?

Postby dcichon » Tue May 24, 2011 8:04 am

Hello. I am new to premiere elements 9. I am shooting my own mts files with a Canon Vixia HF S21, in FXP mode, 1920 x 1080. I need to combine these clips with other wmv files that I did not shoot. Is there a way to convert the wmv files to mts, so all the clips I want to edit together match the project setting I use for my own clips? What is the best way to go about this? Thanks.

Hi, dc. Welcome to Muvipix!

You're wise to convert all of your video to the same format before you mix it in a project. But that's a tough conversion.

Here's what I'd recommend:
1) Open a Premiere Elements project set up for HDV. Import your WMV into it and place it on your timeline.
2) Use Share/Computer/MPEG and the 1440x1080 preset to output a M2T file of this video.
3) Now open a new project set up for your AVCHD 1920x1080 footage and import your footage into it. Place it on the timeline.
4) Use Share/Computer/MPEG and the 1440x1080 preset to output a M2T file of this video.
5) Finally, open a new project, set up for HDV, and import both these M2T files into it. You should then be able to edit all of your footage natively. That is, there should be no red lines above the clips when you place them on the timeline unitl you add effects or transitions to it.

Sounds a bit convoluted, I know. But, trust me, in the long run it will save you a lot of headaches!

Welcome to Muvipix

Steve's solution is the best way and the same method that many of us use.
One of the pitfalls of using multiple format cameras. :wcm:
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
