creating a standard length size for all photo clips

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 9.

creating a standard length size for all photo clips

Postby bsmiles » Thu May 19, 2011 6:06 pm

I am trying to put in a series of photos with some music. The beat detector is picking up voices, so is not really finding the beat.

My idea is to locate the beat by ear and figure out the size of clip needed to fit the beat.

On some audio editors there is a snap to grid tool , but I don't see that here...

so once I know how long my clips should be, how can I make a standard rule to create many photo clips of the same length???

thanks for all your help.

I don't have Pre El 9, but I think there is a way to set the default length of stills when setting up the project.

Oh, okay. Edit>Preferences>General>Still Image Default Duration. 30 frames = 1 second.
Be yourself; everyone else is taken.

If it is a constant beat that is equal in seconds then the Edit>Pref route like Dave suggested would work. If it is inconsistent, for example you want the photos to jump in at the intro with a lot of beats but not the whole slideshow then add photos one right after the other on many tracks. Like stair steps. (I think someone here posted a visual of the timeline a long time ago that used this method. ?? Bob D??) To see the beats on the audio zoom into the timeline to see its wavelength and use that as your reference on placing the photos. You could also add timeline markers as you listen by hitting the * on the number key pad. I think that works in PrEl....it does in AE & Pro.

I found Bob D's post from 2008 where he explains the method. Sorry, thought there was a screen shot.

This forum is awesome. Thankyou very much everyone for your clear directions. I'm doing a 1 1/2 hour documentary as my
first project :) I guess I'll have to add you all in the credits :)
