Specific to Premiere Elements Version 9.

Our local school system wants me to make a video like this one: http://bit.ly/eGgR1J You can get the idea after watching only a couple of minutes of this video, which was produced by a professional media company. I have no idea what software they used for editing and effects, but I'm guessing maybe Final Cut Studio. My question is, with the effects, transitions, graphics, etc. that you see-- Can this be done in PE9? (Either Win and/or Mac?) Nevermind that they are using things I don't have, like a steadycam--haha. But I just wondered about this, and I'd like to hear thoughts from the community. Thanks!

You should be able to make this in PE9. Looks like this has some blur transitions between clips, film burns on some of the clips and some used as a transition (fade in and out a film burn on the track above the joint of the 2 clips), a vignette (oval color matte that is feathered and opacity lowered), footage sped up or a timelapse. The depth of field was with a lens and am of no help with that. Free film burns: http://pierceproductions.org/blog/film-burns/The film burns can be stretched to make longer. I used a few in a volleyball highlight.

I agree with Cheryl, doesn't look like anything you can't do in Premiere Elements. The video was recorded with a HDV camcorder, maybe a HV40 or similar. Some of that might be easier to do in After Effects, but not necessary.

The only thing that strikes me is that the image was colour graded - which is harder with PE. It gives an overall look to the film that won't be the same as straight video.

For color grading, there's a Premiere Elements transition called Luminance Map that can be stretched over the entire length of a video, where for the "B" clip, you have your color-grading image. You only need one frame from the image, (but it won't get lost if you keep it at the default length of 5 seconds).

Yes, RJ, could you explain that in a little more detail? (Thanks to all who have responded so far!)

I went hunting for my notes on the Luminance Map transition, but I couldn't find any. Then it dawned on me that I was trying to think of the Texturize transition.
Let's say you want the entire video to take on the "look" of one of the frames from one of those burn sequences.
You have your clip "A" which is you main video. You have another clip "B" which is just an image, maybe a still or a frame from one of the burn effects.
So "A" and "B" are next to each other on the timeline. You drop the "Texturize" transition between the two clips. The transition has to be aligned "Center at Cut." If the transition doesn't want to center itself, then drop it on the end of clip "A." Then open up the transition properties and change the alignment to "Center at Cut."
Next drag the left edge of the transition all the way to the beginning of clip "A."
The video, clip "A," now takes on the "look" of clip "B." The fun comes when you start adding effects to Clip "B," such as the Brightness/Contrast effect, so you can do some tweaking.
Hope that makes sense.

Here's the link again to the downloads and instructions: http://pierceproductions.org/blog/film-burns/You need something like After Effects or Sony Vegas Pro to carry out the instructions.

I used the film burns in PrPro the same way you would in PrEl. I'll post some screen shots of the timeline later today.

The first example the film burn has the black chromakeyed and the opacity lowered.
The second example the film burn is placed above a dip to white and is the same length. Opacity lowered and no chromakey.
