Burning large movie file

Postby The Director » Mon Nov 21, 2011 1:03 pm

Finished project and created an MPEG 1280x720 movie file. It's 65 minutes long. My CD-R discs can hold 80 minutes of material so I figured I'm okay. To my surprise I couldn't burn the file because it can record only 700mb. Don't quite under stand. My Movie file is 1.5GB. Is there any way I can burn this size file to disc? Do I need the create a different & smaller file? Just found some old CD-Rs that can record 2hrs. So no problem. New question. How can I delete projects from premier 9. I want free up my Mac HD with more space. I've already copied my movie to an external drive. Can I move my project to the other drive?

CD are mostly used for music files. You would be able to store about 80min of music on one CD. For video files you have to use DVD or Blue-ray discs. If you burn your video file in its current condition on a DVD your DVD player would not be able to play it. So, what are you trying to do?
Are you burning your video for backup reason to DVD or do you want to create a payable movie disc?

Just to add my thoughts to what Gerlinde says above...

You can burn the MPEG file to a DVD, that will hold about 4gb of data. Burning the file to a DVD will not make it playable by a DVD player, just a computer using Windows Media Player or other video file player like VLC. If you want to burn a video file to a CD you will need to lower the quality drastically to make it fit.

As a side note, we recommend that your videos should usually be under 40 minutes, for many reasons.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

And, yes, you can certainly move your movie project and its supporting files off your main hard drive to an external drive for storage.

Just to the File menu and select the Project Archiver.

Once the files are moved, you can delete the originals from your hard drive.

BTW if, whenever you start a new project, you create a new folder for it, all of your media, scratch and temp files will be stored inside the same folder. So, once you're done with your project and you're ready to clean off your hard drive, you can easily remove the whole project and all its supporting files by deleting that folder.

Just some housekeeping tips from your friends at Muvipix!

Burning large DVD file. Thanks all for your help & support. I made a mistake in my edited posting. I found a DVD-R disc and made a successful recording. These I know can play on a DVD player.

Thanks and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
