Thanks Chuck! The market is saturated with MWACs or DWACs doing mini sessions around here. I don't see how they are making any profit. I did think about offering up the miniature series type photos, but it takes me 4 hours to 8 hours plus on one photo. I do a lot of painting and masking. The cocoa photo was over 20 layers.

If I were 10 years younger I would focus on pet photography. My 3 schnauzer boys are my main subjects. I take photos for friends and family's pups. I did a session a few months ago for my husband's business client and it was heart warming they used a few of my photos on their Christmas card. If I had a business it would not be fun anymore and my knee tells me no.

My daughter lives in a new neighborhood with lots of families. I am the photographer for Halloween. It started a few years ago when I went over to take the grands' photos before they went out trick or treating when it was still light out. Every year I have their friends wanting a few photos. This last Halloween it was super cold and I ended up taking photos in my daughter's living room. Instead of bringing my flash stand, I sprayed light from the flash with a $1 black foam piece strapped to my speed light. It was an hour long session with families coming in every 10 minutes. It was actually pretty easy once I got my camera and flash settings. The kids & moms stood in the same place and just swapped out people or groups of kids. After I left I realized that yes it was fun, but I wouldn't want to do this as a business.

I can understand that. After I started editing wedding videos the whole thing became work and not so much fun anymore :(

Chuck I remember when you were editing wedding video. You were also doing camera work at your church.

Mom I would think all that competition would help make your work stand out.

You have the high end market (think cinema), the middle market (usual wedding photog) and then the mini session market (MWACs & DWACs weekend warriors). The last group people want to pay $50 for a 30 min or hour session with 20 edited photos on a usb stick and print crappy photos at the drug store. This doesn't even pay your gas to get to the shoot let alone the gear, business ins (which they probably don't have), etc. Heaven forbid if a child gets hurt and they get sued.

Anyway, I am not the wedding middle market which is way too much stress and gear. I don't want to waste my time with the low end market. I appreciate your vote of confidence. I am happy to shoot for family and friends, mostly my grands and the pups. Funny, if someone I know gets a new pup or dog then I am the first to volunteer to get photos of the new arrival :) I love dogs and if I were younger would pursue that market.

The PS miniature is time consuming and I don't think anyone would pay a decent hourly rate for me to create. I've had friends of my daughter see my miniature fantasy work and ask which phone app I use

When I did end of year swim team videos for my daughter's team, one mom said that it was a very nice Powerpoint presentation.

One time when I was asked why it took so long and how I did it after the phone app question, I shared someone's speed fantasy photo edit on YT. Then they got it.

The Valentine miniatures. The shadowbox was 105 layers with 72 layers being the boxes. Daughter wants to do this again in the summer with their friends. I may fine tune the boxes. They took a long time and I still don't think I got the depth perception correct.
