How to Glass slide look in AE?

Postby momoffduty » Sat Feb 06, 2010 6:06 pm

How do you make a glass looking picture frame in AE with maybe a small outline? Thinking a subtle blue tint with a slight bevel edge and maybe the glass looks like art glass with texture/molded.

Glass effects generally have some blurring of the image behind the glass and possibly translation to simulate refraction. I don't see either in the sample. I'm wondering if it may be just a simple solid, masked to form the frame, with the opacity controlled by a ramp via track matte or a feathered mask. I also don't see a glint. You can add a bevel with layer styles, but I'm not sure that's what they did. If I get a chance, I'll play with it. I'm pretty busy right now so it may be a while before I can get to it.

Edit:

I couldn't help thinking about this and I remembered that there was something similar at Videocopilot. I took a look and found this: http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2008/07/stay-glassy-after-effects/

It's not a tutorial, just a sample project, but it's fairly straight forward and I don't think you'll have much problem following it and adapting it.
