Processors

Postby reddace » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:22 pm

I am thinking of building my own system with PE-8 in mind. I presently use my old Gateway P-4 and It is becoming "long in the tooth". I was thinking of maby going with a Phenom 11 S6 1055 Processor and 8 gigs of ram. I am presently on a 32 bit system. My new system would be a 64 bit system. How will, or can PE-8 be able to utilize these extra cores or will this be a overkill? Mostly right now I would be working with standard definition video. :tx:

Welcome reddace :wcm:

PE8 will be able to access the multiple cores of the processor and will speed up most operations. It will be a benefit even with standard defition footage as rendering clips and effects is very processor intensive.

Couldn't agree more :)
I went from a Hyper Threaded 3.0 ghz P4 to four cores and the rendering and burning times were cut way down.
With standard definition it will be blazing fast and you will be ready for HDV if you ever go that route.

Thanx that is good to know. I also have a old copy of Premiere Pro 2.0. Is that too old of a version to to take advantage of same? Thanks again for replies. This seems like a great forum!

I'm pretty sure Ted meant to say

I know he did. I just thought it was funny the way it came out. No offense meant Ted.

Premiere Pro 2.0 ran on Windows XP. It was released prior to Windows Vista and Windows 7 and is likely to have serious compatibility problems assuming you can get it to install at all. I remember that when Vista came out, people were complaining that the Premiere Pro 2.0 installer would complain that the OS wasn't Windows XP and stop. If you are going for Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate which support XP mode, you might be able to install and run under that, but I haven't heard of anyone doing that and can't speculate as to whether that would work. Rather than spend the extra money for Professional or Ultimate just on the hopes that it would work, I'd recommend upgrading to Premiere Pro CS5. PPro 2 lacks a lot of functionality compared to more recent editions.

I think for now once I get my new system built that I may use PP-8 for now. I had ran Premiere Pro 2.0 and DVD Encore on Window XP for years. Bought PP-8 about a year ago but stumbles on the old system.
