How do I export a transparent PAL AVI

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 8.

How do I export a transparent PAL AVI

Postby Chris B » Thu Mar 25, 2010 2:24 am

I'm sure this has been asked before - but I can't seem to find it....

How do I export a DV/AVI for PAL Widescreen from PE8 with parts of it as transparent (rather than having to make them transparent later with green screen etc.)

Thanks all.

Sorry Chris, not a PREv8 user but export with "millions of colours+" seems to ring a bell somewhere(?)

You have to select Windows AVI, not DV-AVI as your compressor. You must select uncompressed (or you could use QT) and as John says you need to select "millions+ colours" for colour depth.

OK - so where do I find this stuff. In my CODEC dropdown for PAL DV I've got

Cinepac Codec By Radius
DV NTSC
DV PAL
Intel IYUV Codec
Microsoft RLE
Microsoft Video 1
Uncompressed UYVY 422 8 Bit
None

No mention of colour (except bit depth...)

In the "Uncompressed AVI" option I've got no option for "millions+ of colours"

:pull: Help!

In PrEl3, not sure if 8 is the same, File>Export>Movie and then in the 'settings' is where you change to uncompressed, etc what Paul & John posted.

File > Export > Movie seems to have been depreciated in versions after 4. That's where I used to do it - but that option's not there any more. :(

You can still get to it through "Share"... all the options are still there. Go to Share, Personal Computer. Select AVI as the export format and then select the "Microsoft AVI" option. Then go in Advanced and under the Video tab for Compressor you need to select None and then you need to select "Render at Maximum Depth" and for Depth "32 bit".
