COmputer Hardware Upgrade

Postby wschumac » Fri Feb 26, 2010 5:36 pm

I have an HP 6123W computer with:

8gb RAM
500GB drive
Average video card.

I'd like to upgrade my hard drive, but need some advice, can you provide, I have large video files and scores of photos. A typical video is about 45-60 mins. ](*,)

I would leave the 500GB as is, and just add a second internal drive. You could use an external eSATA drive if your computer has that capability.

You didn't say how old your PC is, but if it has 8GB of RAM I assume it is running a 64-bit OS and so the internal drives are probably SATA - if so, it should be quite straightforward to add another internal drive.

Bobby was a tad faster than I was, but I agree with him. Leave the system disc alone and add a second drive. Looking at your model specs, it does appear that you have a SATA drive. It looks like your system will take two internal drives, so I would recommend that you get an internal drive, say 1TB SATA. The HP Upgrade and Servicing Guide, http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00841410.pdf, details how to add the drive.

Thank you, that is just what I did. I found a 1TB dual processor drive, new video card and power supply and that will do the trick.
