TV news title effects

Postby sooria365 » Mon Dec 21, 2009 8:13 am

Hi,

I would like to create a TV news title kind of effect (like a band behind the text which fades in & out). I would appreciate if any one can tell me the trick to do.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, sooria. Welcome to Muvipix! I'm sure we'll be able to find a solution (or several) for you!

Meantime, can you be a little more specific about what you're looking for? (Maybe you can link us to a YouTube video that shows the effect?)

Are you talking about something called a lower-third. That's like a caption that runs along the bottom third of your video frame, usually with the name of the person speaking on it?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your lightning speed response. Well, I bought PRE8 recently and trying to explore it (I am still a novice). I am planning to make a family vacation video and wish to use the title at the bottom of frame showing the name of each place. I like to use something similar to that seen on TV news say BBC/CNN showing text at the bottom with a white band behind it which fades out and you have guessed it right which runs at the bottom. I can create the text but how to add in the band?

By the way I have bought your PSE & PRE8 guide book as well to 'master' PRE8 :-D

Thanks,

Hi sooria & welcome to Muvipix. There are several ways to accomplish this:

1. Make a shape in the titler. Use the square to drag out across the bottom. Using the elliptical tool will give you rounded ends. Place this title on track 2 with the title words on track 3 & video on track 1. Can also lower the opacity and/or make it a gradient color. Can keyframe the the shape to appear from the side (slide in) or use a cross dissolve on its ends to fade in and out.

2. Use a gradient shape as a track matte and apply the track matte key to a motion background. Video on track 1, motion background track 2 w/track matte pointing to track 3, shape on track 3, and title words on track 4.

3. Make a feathered shape in Photoshop and bring into Premiere Elements. Same set up as example 1.

I've been playing with this a little bit, too. What great options, Cheryl. Thanks! Sometimes I just need a few ideas to get my brain cells into gear.

Thanks a lot to Steve & Chuck for the quick responses. This forum is great and hats off to you the founders of this website. I am glad that I bought PRE and have such a fantastic support that I can depend on. I am now confident that one day I can achieve my ambition of creating a reasonably good video.
Thanks also to Cheryl/Momo for the great tips. My hands are itching to try this out but I am going on a vacation and will let you know my feedback upon return.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year 2010 to you and to all members of this forum!!
