Specific to Premiere Elements Version 8.

After I upgraded to PRE8 and updated all my drivers PRE7 will not work properly anymore. Now I'm sitting here with two programs from Adobe, not working on my computer anymore. I trust it is not only Adobe's fault. But before I was forced to upgrade my drivers to make PRE8 work, at least for a few minutes without crashing, my good old PRE7 was working fine. I have un-instsalled PRE8, re-booted my computer. PRE7 is crashing as soon as I select a transition or effect, bang.. I un-installed PRE7, re-booted my computer, installed PRE7 again. Same result. I am now saving money to by a new computer, a mac. Maybe it works better with Final Cut Express. So my biggest mistake, so far, regarding software, was to upgrade to PRE8 and mess up my computer with new drivers.

Can't you use a restore point to get back to a point before you installed the new drivers? You should have a list of each one so you could do it one at a time to see if you could remove the offensive drivers, or just go for broke and go back to a point where you know PE 7 worked. You might have to reinstall PE 7 after you restore, but at least you'll have a working editor, hopefully.

Although success with Premiere Elements 8 can be a bit spotty (some people are having no problems while others are having nothing but problems) I can't imagine that updating your drivers would ever be a mistake, Svein.
With the exception of an occasional bug in a driver (which is usually fixed in the next version), you're always better for having your system completely up to date.

Well, it looks like my hard drive is corrupted. Have ordered a new one. I will install Windows 7 on my new drive. Maybe PRE8 works as expected, I hope.

Svein, 1. Is your C drive corrupted or dead? If only corrupted, can’t you run a Quick Format and reuse it? 2. Once you’ve again got everything working perfectly, I suggest you make a mirror image of your C Drive with Acronis True Image or a similar program and then, if ever you need to, you can do a Restore of your OS and all the programs on your C drive–including all your preferences for each program!–in a matter of minutes to a couple of hours.

Well, now I'm up and running with Windows 7. I manage to make Pre8 run, but when I try to create a DVD menu, and try several lay-outs the monitor turn black. But my good old Pre7 is working again.

I wonder if there might be a conflict with Premiere Elements 7 and 8.
When I reinstall 7, it seems to break 8. When I reinstall 8, it seems to break 7.

Yes, that might be. I feel I have the same problem. But now PRE7 is working fine, and I will not try to use PRE8 before I am done with my project.

One thought that came to mind was that when updating drivers, some fragments of the old drivers may have been left behind, compromising the updated drivers. In the future the best way to upgrade a driver is through control panel, instead of letting a program do it.
I wish I were creative enough to write something witty here.
