Specific to Premiere Elements Version 8.

I started my first project with PE8 last night... I captured a few seconds of video from my mini DV cam and then, just to check it out, tried to watch it. All I got was a blank bluegreen colored screen on the playback. The audio plays, the video shows up on the clips in the timeline, but nothing on the screen.
Just to be sure, I launched my version 4 and captured the same video. It works and plays back perfectly.
Any ideas?

I don't know of any reason this would happen. Although I'd be curious if you could edit with and play the video you captured in version 4 in a version 8 project.
As far as I know, there's no modification to the capture system in version 8. When it gets miniDV over FireWire, it just streams in data from the camcorder. It doesn't (or shouldn't) affect the actual video in any way.

Right click on the clip and make sure it is Enabled. It should be, as the audio plays, but just wondering...

Well, last night I did a uninstall/reinstall. Then tried again... no bluegreen screen this time, now it was just black. Same thing, audio plays, no video. Then I unchecked "Enable GPU playback" (as suggested on another forum) and the video appeared! It doesn't "play", but at least it shows up. I can scrub across it and it "moves" and the audio plays, but it still doesn't play back normally.
Any other ideas?...

Ron, Do you still have an earlier version of Premiere Elements on your computer? What happens if you capture with WinDV? Can you play any of your old files?
