I have the released version. But I will continue to use Pre7. Version 8 is not stable enough. Svein

Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsCan you version 8 users try something for me?
Adobe suggests, in its troubleshooting Knowledge Base article, that you hold down the Shift key as you start the program to clear some registry settings. I tried it and, amazingly, my Premiere Elements 8 stopped guzzling memory and is actually stable enough to work with! Just so I know it's not a placebo effect, can others give it a try and see if it makes a difference? HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsSteve, do you have to do that (shift key) just once, or each time you start?
Bobby (Bob Seidel)
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsHopefully just once. Holding down the shift key when starting rebuilds the plugins cache.
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First Impressions
Then I'm confused because I thought it wasn't supposed to be released until Oct 20-something. Steve G

Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsOct 20 might be for the retail box. The download version has been avaliable since Sept 23rd, the trial version was also avaliable at that time as well
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsAh. Thank you. I was unaware of that.

Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsI ordered from Amazon this morning. It says in stock.
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsI just did a test of my new camera with my new copy of PE8. I videotaped about a minute of video in HDV, then captured it into PE8.
Problem #1. When I opened the capture window, I got a message box saying that the camera's settings were different from the project settings and that might affect the video quality. I had set the camera to record and output in HDV, and I had set both the PE8 settings and the Project Settings to capture in HDV. I double checked, and all settings were set to HDV. I don't know what the problem could have been. There was a link for Help with this issue, but it just took me to the Help file table of contents. I looked at the help files for Capture, and didn't see anythign that looked relevant to the error message. So I just went ahead and captured it. The capture worked. The video quality is not nearly as good as I expected, but I think I've read that the previews in PE8 for HDV don't look as good as the final project will. (I hope that's so.) Problem #2. I tried applying a couple of effects and transitions to see how fast rendering was. The effects worked OK, and the fade transitions worked, but none of the dissolve transitions had any effect at all. I got the red render bar after applying them, and then rendered the timeline, and the bar turned green just like it should, but there was still no transition when I played it. The same thing happened (or, rather, didtn't happen) with all of the dissolve transitions. Any ideas on what might be wrong?
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsThere needs to be a significant change in the video for the dissolves to be noticeable.
Did you just split the video and apply a dissolve? If so you will not be able to see the transition as it needs to be two different clips 1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.
2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsNope. The first scene was outdoors, shot through the window, then I stopped the camera, turned around and shot the second one indoors, panning across my office space. I split the clip exactly between the two scenes. There's a very definite cut from one scene to the next.
Re: Now That People Are Using PE 8, First ImpressionsTrim off about 30 frames from each side and see if the transition looks any better
