This pretty much says it all

Despite the improvements, we feel that Premiere Elements 8 doesn't do enough to justify an upgrade from version 7. For new users, however, it remains the best non-professional video-editing software on the market. It may not be the most friendly desktop video-editing app on the market, but the new smart tools make mundane tasks easier to bear and, unlike competitors, its range of power and control means you're unlikely to ever outgrow it.

Well, that's pretty much true about nearly every piece of software I own, Chuck! It's rare that I've seen a must-have feature that merits my immediately upgrading.

My last update of After Effects was a must have, my last update of Camtasia was a must have.
At least most software comes out with a must have on a regular basis, but not Premiere Elements.
There hasn't been a must have since version 2, lots of nice little program fixes and some cool stuff but nothing that I had to have.

When they fix some of the things that we have been begging them to fix for over 4 years now, that will be a must have.

For those of us that went to Vista, version 3.02 was a must have. ;)

I think that was a gotcha, Chuck :-D

I will be upgrading from WinXP to Win7 32 bit therefore I will upgrade Elements v2 to v8. Being an old IT veteran I remain rather cautious and conservative and will upgrade the OS to 64 bit when Elements has substantial support for a 64 bit OS.

I'm also planning on upgrading from Premiere Elements V2. From what I'm reading in a couple different threads it might be better to just upgrade to V7. How long after the new versions come out can you still get the previous version?

I'd say as long as Amazon's retailers still have any left in stock (or on eBay).

I found about a year ago on ebay a copy of the PSE4/PRE2 bundle that was still in the original shrink-wrap. If memory serves, the cost was about $50.

P.S. As of last night, there were also a number of new-in-the-box HV30s available on ebay, priced at $850 (which is about $50 more than a new HV40 at B&H).

Yeah .. I guess there's a fine line between holding out for a good price .. and holding out so long that there's nothing left.

Steve, you know what would make it a must-have for me? One word... er..two words.....Motion Tracking.

Is that feasible, in an App like PreEl7, 8, or....maybe 9, do you think?

Kurt.

Hi Kurt, welcome to Muvipix. Well PE8 does have a form of Motion Tracking... you can select a subject/object to track on the screen and add a picture, video, title or one of the available clip arts and it will track the subject/object's motion.

Hi Paul, and thanks for the welcome. Been a member for a little while, but mostly hang around the Pre El 7 forums. That's interesting what you say about version 8. I did see a tutorial about motion tracking on the page that also had some PPrE 8 reviews, but unfortunately I couldn't access it, not being a subscriber to that section. Not even sure if that particular motion tracking is the same as the feature in PrE8, or just a tutorial about After Effects.

Do you know, is there somewhere I might see a demo of that tracking feature you mentioned in Pre8 anywhere here, without subscribing?

Thanks,
Kurt.

Well, there's a demo of it right at the top of the Adobe products page. ;)
