Looking forward to hearing the experts' and beta testers comments. From the description on the Adobe site it sounds like a minor upgrade version release.

There are a couple of things I would welcome in particular the ability to recognise faces within a library of photographs. We are in the process of scanning all of our hard copy photographs into digital format. Its a huge task, especially if you are going to tag everyone.

That was actually for Version 4 release (how time flies!) - viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1038 - but still applies!

Windows 7 support is specifically mentioned.

For those of us not considering upgrading, will PRE7 run on Windows 7? I bought the Win7 upgrade for my video PC (waiting, of course) and now I wonder if I have to buy PRE8 also...

Is it to soon to know the difference between PE4 vs. PE8?

Steve,

How about the stability of this release, with the new features added what has been your experience with lockups, crashes, etc? Is it as good as or better than pre7?

Very informative, Steve.

I especially like the separate-Organizer feature, and there are a number of others that make ungrading tempting.

I could not discern from the link the hardware/software requirements. Will 8 work with XP MCE 2005?

In my experience, the system requirements are pretty much the same for version 8 as they were for previous versions, with two exceptions:

1) Version 8 leaves a bigger footprint, so I'd definitely recommend at least 2 gigs of RAM

2) There are two new features that work in the "background" -- background rendering and automatic clip analysis. Unfortunately, these two useful features are also pretty intrusive, and I've had to shut them down in order to get any work done on my (admittedly older) computer. With more powerful machines, especially those with lots of RAM, they should be less of an issue.

But overall, yes, the system requirements are not terribly different than for version 7.

Most years there isn't a upgrade price because it is a completely new program, not an upgrade really.
They very seldom offer incentives to move to the new version, that's why lots of people are still on version 2 and 3.

The best deals usually come from Amazon, be sure to use the muvipix store if you are going to order the new version from Amazon.
If you want to purchase from Adobe we have a link at chuckengels.com

We will also have a links to both on our resources page coming in the next few days.

"In the past, Adobe has released new versions of Elements in the fall. But there's been no formal announcement yet. We'll keep our eyes out for these backdoor announcements in the meantime!" Steve Grisetti, Sept 17, 2009

I am starting to learn how to decipher the Muvipix code language...
