Regarding the red line, were any effects applied to the clip? Maybe you accidentally moved the opacity bar?

I have a couple more of screen shots using this clip and not sure if this will confuse the whole thing a bit more.

I don't normally have "Scale to Frame Size" checked and I confirmed that it is not checked

I deleted the original clip from the project in case I accidently did change opacity or something and then I brought the same clip into the project again. The first screen shot is of the clip in my Widescreen project and notice that there is a red line above the clip. I thought I would experiment and I brought the clip into a project that I am currently using to capture old tapes. This project is in Pal standard format and notice that there is NO red line above the clip.

Very strange me thinks. Edit: I just created a new widescreen project in case there was something wrong with the old one and I can confirm that nothing changed. There is still a red line above the clip

Yup, that's the fake widescreen of the old SD DV Camcorders :)
Cuts off the top and bottom to make it look like widescreen which it really isn't.
It is just standard DV footage with the top and bottom cut off.

As a quick though if you know exactly what camera the original was taken on we might be able to find a manual to confirm that this is what's going on here.
Intel Core i7 8700 - 32GB DDR4 - 500GB Evo 970 SSD - 3+2 TB HDD - GTX 1080- MSI Z370 Pro - Win10 64 bit - Cannon HV30 (PAL) - Sony A6000 - GoPro 3 Black

Glad to know that there is nothing wrong with my project settings.

Chris, I don't think I will be able to find out what sort of camera it was taken on. I was given the tape by someone else and they got the tape of another person as well. It has some footage of my daughter and her friends rock climbing at a school camp and I plan to use parts of it for the presentation that I am making for her 21st.

Thanks for everyone's help.
