No sound audible in PE4

Postby sue_dvds » Mon Mar 28, 2011 5:04 pm

Hi. I have previously used PE4 for DVD projects. This time I have a new PC. I have successfully uploaded video and can see it in PE4 but cannot hear anything. If I open the individual .avi files in Explorer I can hear the soundtrack though. Any ideas? The speakers on the PC are working fine with other programmes, e.g. iTunes.

The camcorder it was recorded on is a Sony PC-109E and it was uploaded to the PC using a Sony PC-106E, using a firewire connection.
The PC is a Dell XPS 8100 Intel i5 CPU 650@ 3.2 GHz. It uses Windows 7 with a 64 bit operating system, service pack 1 is installed. It the first time I've tried using PE4 on this machine and everything else seems fine.

All thoughts/suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks,
Sue

Hi Sue,
Do you know how to check the Dell site for driver updates?
You may need to update your audio driver if there is one available.
Also, make sure you have the current version of Quicktime installed.

Could also just be a problem with the audio settings in Premiere Elements.
Go to Edit / Preferences / Audio Hardware
What is the Default Device? If you click the dropdown are there any other options?
Click the ASIO Settings button what device is checked?
What is the Sync Reference and Card Options settings set to?
Also check the Edit / Preferences / Audio Output Mapping option to make sure your sound card audio is selected.

Then go to Edit / Project Settings / General
Click the Playback Settings button and make sure the Desktop Audio option is selected.

Hope that helps :)
