Hi Def into PE3? Possible?

Postby Tony Wade » Mon Mar 29, 2010 5:38 pm

Hi guys, I've been trying to search for whether I can use PE3 to import and edit HD files. Is this possible? If not, what is the version of PE that I should use?

You need version 4 and above to edit HDV Tony. It may help to know what type of High Def files you are going to be editing, do you know the source? Is it a taped based camcorder or something else?

Chuck, it's a camera I am borrowing from my son on a trip to Canada in June, a 'Canon HX A1' Mini-dv. I was hoping to be able to shoot in HD, but if I have to shoot in SD, so be it. :-{

Chuck, even if I shoot HD and then find a way of editing in SD, at least the tapes will be in HD. It is a 40 year reunion I am going to...

I thought PRE3 was just Vista Compatible, not HDV. But if Bob says it is then I trust he is correct.
You know it's been so many versions ago I tend to forget sometimes. I can check my laptop tomorrow, that is what has v3 on it still.

But considering that V3 has HDV support the XH A1 will capture and edit just fine. Recommend capturing with the free utility HDVSplit, much nicer for capturing :)

Yes, PE 3 was the first Vista compatible version and the first to support HDV. You have your choice of three HDV project presets: 1080i 25, 1080i 30, and 720p 30. Here's a technote about setting up a project that describes the project presets in more detail: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333205.html

I second that. HVSplit was a must have back in the days of owning an HV20.
I wish I were creative enough to write something witty here.
