Windows 7/64 Bit

Postby boosaman » Fri Feb 05, 2010 11:24 am

I have upgraded my system (new CPU, motherboard, graphics card) and I was planning to move from XP to Windows 7, 64 bit. But I am working on a major video project, and the last thing I want to happen is for Premiere Elements 4 to stop working.

Does PE4 work with Windows 7/64 bit?

Or should I just wait before upgrading?

Thanks.

Hi Boosaman, Welcome to Muvipix :meet:

If you want to be guaranteed no problems or issues then do not upgrade until after you finish your project.

Version 4 has worked for some people on Windows 7 64bit but there is no way to tell if it will work for sure on your system.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Welcome boosaman, I would definately wait before upgrading to Windows 7, 64 bit until you have finished your current project. PE4 may work fine in the new OS but I wouldn't take the risk, especially if it is a major project.

My PE4 worked when I used win7/64 on my current system - however my new system dosen't like it :(. If you know someone with an MSDN access you could download the ISO and try it.

It would appear that it would be safest to finish my major project before installing Windows 7. I had really hoped that using a 64 bit OS would speed things up, but the last thing I want to do is have Premiere Elements 4 blow up.

I vote with those suggesting you definately finish your project first!! I switched from V2 to V7. Different issue, but still changing the environment. 2 projects transferred with no issues. 2 projects transferred with the program freezing up quite often, but finally smoothed out after many many 'save' and 'closes.' The only project that was really important will not even open in 7, so I'm finishing it in V2.
