Sorry to hear about your woes... really sucks when that happens. Like you I only install new stuff if I absolutely need it. You should be able to use Add and Remove programs in Control Panel to uninstall Quicktime.

I thought there was a way to restore the computer at a point where it was BEFORE i installed that new quicktime

cause now I am barely able to get this thing up and running - seems everytime I start it up it wont even bring up Vista

and the one time I did get Premeire to start running - when I brought up some smaller files the computer was OK, but the massive file (2 hours of about 13 different segments combined into one with menus etc) that I need to burn to DVD....as soon as it came on the screen it immediately stopped working and said

Adobe Premiere has stopped working blah blah blah

so assuming I can get Vista to start working again - does anyone know about restoring the computer to 2 days ago before I installed the new Quicktime?

Before I did that, coolstuff, I'd try updating everything else and see if that fixes it. I've not heard of problems (or experienced them) with the latest Quicktime.

Vista (as well as XP) has unleashed a massive load of patches these past couple of weeks. Vista is up to SP2 -- and I've found that, even manually visiting Windows Update, I've sometimes needed to make several trips to the site (sometimes rebooting between visits) to get all of the latest.

I've also found great success with a free program called Secunia Software Inspector. It continually scans your computer and ensures you've got the latest versions of all of your programs. To get it go to this site, click on Software Inspectors, then download Personal Desktop.

I always recommend updating a computer to keep it stable as opposed to rolling it back.

For restoring to a stored restore point from a few days ago :
The short way:
Hit the start button, type "rstrui" (the executable name) and hit enter
or
Hit the start button, type "System Restore" (the program name) and hit enter

The long way:
Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System
Click "Advanced System Settings" from the left side panel
Click the "System Restore" button from the "System Protection" tab.
