Blurry Pictures

Postby Sherry » Fri Apr 24, 2009 2:23 pm

It's been a while since I've posted anything because things have been working so perfectly for so long, but I'm encountering a problem I don't remember ever having issues with and I need some help. I have loaded my pictures onto my timeline and all my pictures are blurry unless I click around enough on the outside of the picture and move it a little an then it sharpens. But as soon as I click on another image that previously sharpened picture becomes blurry again. I really wouldn't care excpet for the fact that it exports it as a blurry picture. Like I said, I've never had this problem before and am freaking out a little bit because this is a big project I'm doing for a local preschool. Thanks for your help, in advance!

Hi Sherry, glad to hear you have been doing so well :TU:

Sorry to hear you ran into a problem though.
What format are the images? (jpeg, tif, psd,...)
How large are the images in pixels?
Have you rendered the timeline by pressing the enter key?
Have you made any adjustments to them, size, position, effects, opacity, ... anything at all?

Oh, thanks, Chuck for replying. OK here the answers to your questions:

Type:JPEG
File size:1.3MB
Image size:2592x1944
Pixel depth:32
Pixel Aspect Ratio:1.0

I have rendered, all the time.

I have checked Scale to Image on all my pics, and tried it without because I have always had a similar problem when I slowly blur or unblur images, but this little trick is not working for me in this situation.

I am putting a slow zoom on the pictures, but I've always done that.

The only way I can sharpen the picture is by a random click on the picture but then as soon as I click outside the picture (on the viewing picture, not on the timeline picture) it goes blurry again.

Thanks,
Sherry

Try resizing the images (at least one to start with) to 1024 x 768 (or close), turn off Scale to Frame Size, then import that one resized image into your project.
Then put the two images next to each other (one original size and the resized one), can you see a difference?

I did the resizing and turning the Scale to Fram Size off but nothing changed. Still, whenever I click the motion button (clicking the actual word "motion") and it brings up the resizing tool lines around the picture the picture sharpens but as soon as the resizing lines around the picture go away, the picture blurs-it doesn't pixelate it's blurred. :(

It sounds like you just might need to render your timeline.

Do you see a red line on your timeline above your video tracks? That indicates a clip or photo that needs to be rendered. When that happens you see a lower quality preview of the clip.

But render it (press Enter) and the red lines will turn green. Your picture should then look much cleaner.

Yeah, you would think but that's just not solving the problem. I'm kind of a render freak. I render after every little change because I like to see the quality of the pictures/video right away. But this is just the strnagest think I've ever seen. Literally every time the motion lines are deselected the picture blurs.

Now what's happening is I have to enlarge the picture just ever so slightly before the picture will sharpen. Then when I deselect the motion lines it blurs again. :(

Export an AVI, File/Export/Movie, and see if they look blurred in the video.

You can also try saving the project as a different name, Save As, sometimes that fixes problems.

The other option would be to start Premiere Elements while holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys.
Click the icon to start the program as normal then press the Left Ctrl and Shift keys down and hold them there till the splash screen comes up.

I possibly may have happened upon a solution!!!!! Let me know if this makes sense or if you have ever heard of this before. I right clicked on the picture in the view screen and clicked >Magnification >100% and my pictures aren't blurring after I deselect the motion lines. If I click >Fit, they go back to blurred.

I had thought that Fit was equal to 'Scale to Frame Size', maybe not.
It does make sense that they would be a little blurry if not 100%, but not sure how or why they are set to Fit rather than 100% in the first place.
Maybe someone has run across this before, I can't remember seeing or hearing about this until now.

It seems to have done the trick, even after trying the Scale to Frame Size options not working. So, if anyone else seems to be having this problem I will be happy to give them to option to try. We'll see if it continues to work. :) Thanks for all your help. It's all about trial and error sometimes, isn't it?

I think Sherry is refering to 100% magnification in the Monitor window... not on the Timeline. Which makes sense I guess, when you Fit it is scaled in the Monitor and becomes blurry. I think Robert mentioned this some time ago.

Yes, exactly! It is on the Monitor, not the timeline. It was Fit on the Monitor not 100%. :)
